Sylver Ochoa notched his second win on the Fast Eddie's billiard tour, defeating Jui Lung Chen twice to take home the $1,200 first prize.

Forget the $1,200 first prize at stake at the December 6-7 stop of the Fast Eddie’s Olhausen 9-Ball Tour. The real prize was a $3,200 Olhausen pool table, which was raffled off among the tournament’s 67 entrants at Fast Eddie’s in San Antonio, TX. The tickets for this raffle were handed out to participants of the tour who’d played in at least four of the stops; one ticket for each stop. Chuck Adams of Houston, with seven to his credit, walked away with the table. So to speak. Having been knocked out of the $1,750-added tournament early, Adams was back in Houston when tour director Lewis Jones called to inform him of the prize.

Meanwhile, on the competition pool tables, Sylver Ochoa notched his second win on the tour, defeating Jui Lung Chen twice to take home the aforementioned $1,200 first prize. From among the winners’ side final four, Ochoa defeated Danny Almaraz 9-6 to face Chen for the first time in the hot seat match. Chen, who’d won in Houston back in October, had barely survived a hill-hill struggle versus James Davis, Sr. to get to the hot seat match. Ochoa sent him to the semifinals 9-5.

Over on the one-loss side, James Davis, Jr. was battling his way toward a showdown with his dad in the quarterfinals. Junior got by Lee Rosa, Rick Stanley, and Almaraz to do it. Ismael Ramirez, in the meantime, dropped Charlie “Hillbilly” Bryant into the tie for ninth place and Frank Ferrer, Jr. into seventh place, before Davis, Sr. finished his tournament bid and it was time for father and son to go at it.

Davis, Sr. sent Davis, Jr. home 7-4 and then followed him when Chen took the semifinal match by the same score. Chen moved back to face Ochoa a second time. In the double-elimination final, Ochoa wasted no time taking command. He got out early and stayed there for a 9-4 win that brought home the first-place prize.

Al Mason strung together a series of three 9-6 wins to capture first place in the $1,000-added Fast Eddie’s Olhausen 9-Ball Tour stop October 25. Hosted by Fast Eddie’s Billiards in Odessa, TX, the event drew 32 entrants.

Among the winners’ side final four, Mason began his run to the finals with a 9-6 victory over Sean Black, as Steve Davenport was defeating Champ Massengil 9-5. In the hot seat match that followed, Mason tallied his second 9-6 win, sending Davenport to the semifinals.

Massengil dropped Rodriguez into a tie for fifth place with a 7-5 victory, while Black battled to hill-hill before sending Derrick to join him. Black defeated Massengil 7-5 in the subsequent quarterfinals before falling to Davenport 7-4 in the semifinals.

Jui-Lung Chan put in an impressive performance to take the title at Fast Eddie's in Houston, TX.

Jui-Lung Chen gave up only five racks in his final three matches at Fast Eddie’s Olhausen 9-Ball Tour stop the weekend of October 11-12. He bested Doug Young twice to capture the first-place prize of the $1,750-added event that drew 51 players to Fast Eddie’s in Houston, TX.

Among the winners’ side final four, Chen sent Andy Jethwa west with a 9-2 victory before meeting Young for the first time in the hot seat match. Young had sent Stoney Stone to the one-loss side with a 9-3 win. Chen sent Young to the semifinals, giving up only two racks in that match as well.

On the one-loss side, it was James Davis Sr. and Juan Taylor emerging from that bracket to tackle Jethwa and Stone. Two hill-hill matches ensued that put Davis and Stone into the quarterfinal match, won by Stone 7-5. By the same score, Young ended Stone’s tournament bid and moved back to face Chen for the last time.

Young won the opening game of the match, but it was the only game he won. Chen settled in to win nine in a row and bring home the $1,170 first-place prize.

Charlie Bryant held off a one-loss side challenge from Sylver Ochoa to take first place in the open division of Fast Eddie’s Oldhausen 9-Ball Tour stop the weekend of September 20-21, while in the women’s division, Heather Lloyd captured the first-place prize. The $1,750-added open event drew 85 entrants to Fast Eddie’s Billiards in San Antonio, TX, with the $350-added women’s event garnering 30 entrants.

Among the final four on the winners’ side, Bryant advanced to the hot seat in the men’s tournament on the heels of a 9-4 victory over James Davis, Sr. and a 9-3 victory over Bob Pyles, who’d sent Al Mason to the one-loss side. In the meantime, Ochoa was working his way through the tournament’s final 12 on the one-loss side, defeating both James Davis, Jr. and Robert Almaraz 7-3. He dropped the senior Davis into a tie for fifth place with Gabe Owen before facing Mason in the quarterfinals. Ochoa dropped Mason into fourth place and Pyles into third with 7-5 victories. He finished in second place, as Bryant took command in the true double-elimination finals that went only a single set and finished his undefeated bid 9-4.

In the women’s event, Lloyd and Bonnie Plowman, among the winners’ side final four, sent Kyu Yi and Cristina De La Garza west for a fifth-place battle before squaring off in the first of their two double-hill matchups. Lloyd prevailed and waited in the hot seat for Plowman’s return.

Melinda Bailey and Sophie Lopez were on the one-loss side to greet Yi and De La Garza and ended up tied for fifth place. Yi advanced to the semifinals against Plowman after a 5-3 victory over De La Garza. Plowman got her second chance at Lloyd, winning the semifinal match by an identical 5-3 score. Lloyd and Plowman battled through their second double-hill matchup with the same result that finished Lloyd’s undefeated weekend.

The Fast Eddie’s Olhausen 9-Ball Tour drew 43 players to their August 9-10 stop at Fast Eddie’s Billiards in Amarillo, TX. The small but talented field boasted a star line-up, with Jui-Lung Chen going undefeated to take the top-place prize.

Chen, a frequent winner on the Fast Eddie’s Tour and also their player of the year for 2007, breezed through the winners’-side bracket, brushing off opponent after opponent, until he arrived at the hot seat match. There he was faced with young gun Joey Gray from Oklahoma City, OK. In this tight match, Chen came out the double-hill winner 7-6.

Now on the west side of the chart, Gray was faced with Glen Atwell, who was fresh off of a 7-5 defeat of Rafael Martinez, who is a threat in any event. Atwell couldn’t fade Gray’s desire for a rematch with Chen, and Gray advanced by virtue of a 7-5 victory. Once again facing Chen, though, Gray stumbled. It was almost as close as they get, but Chen still managed to pull off a 9-7 defeat of Gray.

Results:
1st Jui Lung Chen
2nd Joey Gray
3rd Glen Atwell
4th Rafael Martinez
5th Ricardo Martinez
