Dominiak Cues as tour sponsor, Kevin Vidal as tour director, along with several generous host rooms have created The Dominiak Cues Northeast Amateur 10 Ball Tour.
“We felt there was a need for a platform purely for the amateur player to have an affordable quality tour to attend and compete in a format that allows amateur players to enjoy competition and hone their skills, a stepping stone if you will” says tour director Kevin Vidal. Each tour stop will have a entry fee of $35 that includes table time, all women and all players under 18 (juniors) will have no entry fee, but do pay the $10 greens fee. Players considered of “B” level skills and below, along with league players will now have a tour they can call their own! Players considered to be “A” or “Pro” level are not eligible for the tour.
100% of entry fees will be paid back at each tour stop along with a brand new Dominiak Cue to each winner for each tour stop! Tour memberships will be required for all entries, either a full tour membership or 1 day memberships will be available. Memberships are discounted for women and juniors, as well as free entry fee for women and juniors at each tour stop. Currently there are 7 Dominiak Cue Tour stops planned and a grand finale for the 2009 season, with the first stop kicking off January 10th at The Billiards Café in Ayer, Ma.
All tour stops with the exception of the grand finale will be 1 day events on either a Saturday or a Sunday with doors opening at 11am and play starting at noon. Top 100 player rankings will be kept and be determined by points earned at each tour stop and will be displayed on our official website. For tour dates and locations along with all tour info please visit the official website for the tour www.DominiakCuesTour.com .
Kevin and William are encouraging all northeast amateur players to come out and support the new tour and have some fun.

Strickland to Make 13th Mosconi Cup Appearance

Strickland to Make 13th Mosconi Cup Appearance
Double J Grabs Last Spot

The 47 year old Strickland is prepared to make his 13th Mosconi Cup appearance in Malta later this year. Jeremy "Double J" Jones will round out the rest of the American billiards squad
Matchroom Sport can announce that the final two spots on the American side for the forthcoming PartyCasino.com Mosconi Cup will be filled by South Carolina’s Earl Strickland and Jeremy Jones (Texas).
Both players line up in an American team that is hoping to win the Mosconi Cup outright for the first time since 2005. Taking place at the Hilton Hotel, Portomaso, St Julians, Malta from December 11 – 14, the event features two five-man teams playing a series of singles and doubles matches over four days.
Strickland, 47, is playing in his 13th consecutive Mosconi Cup, a record for the event, and has won a fantastic 37 points from 56 matches. ‘The Pearl’ insists that he will be back to his imperious best come December, having put the health issues that dogged him a few years ago very much behind him.
“I’m not just a pool player, I’m an athlete,” said an ebullient Strickland.
“I’m running four miles every morning and doing 500 sit ups a day and I’m practicing seven to eight hours a day.
“I’m a more intelligent player than most of these guys, I’m working hard and I think I’m close to being back to my very best.
“The Mosconi Cup is my kind of tournament and I’m looking forward to doing my best for the USA in Malta.”
Despite his well-documented bust-ups at the Mosconi Cup, Strickland’s record in the event is the best of the 61 players who have participated in the competition in its 14 year history.
Joining Strickland, Archer, Van Boening and Morris will be Jeremy Jones, who at 36 will be making his seventh Mosconi Cup appearance. ‘Double J’ sports an impressive 16 wins from 28 starts and made his debut back in 1999 when the USA won 12-7 at the York Hall in London.
Jones has enjoyed a revival this year with a third place finish at the Predator International 10 Ball Championship back in May. Then in June, he followed that up with a long-awaited victory in the Generationpool.com Open in Charlotte.
These results and others were enough to propel the likeable Texan up to fourth in the BCA Points List and secure his Mosconi Cup spot.
Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn said, “In all the sports that I have promoted over the years, aside from the boxer Chris Eubank, there has been no other sportsman who has got the public going more than Earl Strickland.
“Some love him, plenty hate him but he is one of the greatest players to have ever held a cue stick and when it comes to entertainment, he has few rivals.
“The Mosconi Cup has always been Earl’s playground – he won MVP honours in Las Vegas in 2005 – and when he’s on form, the Europeans will know all about it.
“Jeremy Jones has a great record in the event and it is gratifying to see him play his way back into contention. He completes a very strong looking American side and I am expecting a fierce battle in December.”
This year will see the 15th running of pool’s answer to the Ryder Cup and the current score stands at 10 ½ - 3 ½ to the Americans.
The official sponsors of the 2008 Mosconi Cup are PartyCasino.com, Brunswick Tables, Simonis Cloth, Super Aramith Pro Balls and Predator Cues.

Feijen and Immonen Added to European Mosconi Cup Team

Feijen and Immonen Added to European Mosconi Cup Team
Feijen & Immonen Make up Team Europe

Immonen and Feijen have been named as the final two players to be added to the European billiards team at the PartyPoker.com Mosconi Cup in Malta.
Matchroom Sport are pleased to announce that Finland’s Mika Immonen and Niels Feijen (Holland) are the final two players to make up the European team for this year’s 15th annual Mosconi Cup which takes place at the Hilton Hotel, Portomaso, St Julians, Malta from December 11 – 14.
Immonen, 35, became only the second ever European player to win the prestigious US Open at the weekend when he dispatched 2006 World Pool Champion Ronnie Alcano of the Philippines 13-7 in the final.
The American-based Finn was a member of the successful European Mosconi Cup side in 2002 and will be desperate to make amends for 2006 when he was two balls away from winning the Mosconi Cup for Europe.
“It’s amazing to be back in the team again. It was one of the driving forces that kept me fighting for the US Open title,” he said.
“I said to my friends before the Open that I am going to win this one and earn my spot back on the Mosconi Cup team. It’s the only way and it’s the right way. I simply had to show why I think I should be on that team.
Immonen who will be making his 12th Mosconi Cup appearance and has recorded 27 wins from 55 matches added, “I am looking forward to it all and I will fight just as hard on the team so we can retain the title.”
For Feijen, the 31 year-old from The Hague, it has been a culmination of a highly successful year that saw him claim the WPA World Straight Pool Championship in August.
“It’s been a great year for me and I think I deserve to be in the team again. Of the five major events out there, I’ve finished in the top three in three of them including being runner up at the Qatar International Open and third place at the recent World Ten Ball Championship.
Feijen was one of the back bones of the European side that won so well in Las Vegas last year and overall, sports a 10 wins from 17 starts record in the event.
Immonen and Feijen now join Germany’s Ralf Souquet, Tony Drago (Malta) and Mark Gray of England to make up what looks to be one of the strongest European teams in recent years.
Commented Matchroom Sport Chairman Barry Hearn, “It was always going to be a very tough decision and someone was going to be disappointed but that is a testament to the current strength in depth of European pool.
“Mika and Niels have played in a total of 15 Mosconi Cups between them and have both experienced victory in the event so they know all about what is required.
“Their achievements this year have been exceptional and I am sure they will be as keen as anyone to be a member of the first European team to successfully defend the Mosconi Cup.”
The final two players for the American team will be announced on Friday 31st October.

Maryland State One-Pocket Billiards Championships

Maryland State One-Pocket Billiards Championships

Maryland State One-Pocket Billiards Championships to Be Held November 1-2 at Side Pockets Café in Laurel, Maryland.
LAUREL, MD – October 29, 2008 – Danny Green , a well-known pocket billiards player based in Silver Spring, MD, and Capone Custom Cues of Poolesville, MD, are hosting the first annual Maryland State One-Pocket Billiards Championships. The tournament will take place on Saturday and Sunday, November 1-2, at Side Pockets Bar & Grill, 904 Fairlawn, Avenue, Laurel, MD, 20707. The players meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with play beginning at 10:00 a.m. Spectators are welcome to attend and watch some top level one-pocket players up close. There will be a $5.00 admission fee with part of the proceeds being donated to cancer research. For directions to Side Pockets, please go to www.sidepocketsmd.com or call 301-604-1300.
The Maryland State One-Pocket tournament is open to both professional and amateur pocket billiards players, with a three-tiered level for entry fees as follows: $150 for professional players, $125 for A-level players, and $100 for all amateur players. This one-pocket tournament offers the following payouts: First place - $2,500; Second place - $1,250; Third place - $750, and other prizes up to approximately 33% of the field. Side Pockets owner Amit Patel has generously added $2,000 to this event (based on a full field of 64 players) and has already recovered the pool tables for optimal play.
The Maryland State One-Pocket tournament founder, Danny Green, said, “Although the general public is more familiar with eight-ball and nine-ball, many high-level pool players prefer playing one-pocket because it offers the ultimate test of strategic thinking and advanced shot-making. Comparing one-pocket to eight-ball is like comparing chess to checkers—it’s just a more advanced game.”
The goal of one-pocket is for each player to select one of the two pockets at the foot of the table, and be the first player to pocket 8 of the 15 balls in his or her designated pocket. The best one-pocket players not only make balls in their own pocket, but they strategically move balls away from their opponent’s designated pocket and leave the cue ball in a position where it is difficult for an opponent to start a successful run. Therefore, one-pocket is a slower, more deliberate game than 8-ball or 9-ball, and the ability to make bank shots and defensive shots is critical to winning in one-pocket. This game is popular among high-stakes players, because there is less luck and more strategy involved in winning a match.
The sponsors are hosting the Maryland State One-Pocket Championships just one week after the 33rd Annual U.S. Open 9-Ball Championships, which was recently completed in Chesapeake, VA. In that event, Mika Immonen of Finland beat out a field of 238 of the best pool players in the world to win the $40,000 first prize.
Danny Green said, “We already have commitments from a few top players to attend the Maryland State One-Pocket Championships including local hot shots such as Manuel “The Stinger” Chau from Silver Spring, Maryland. This tournament provides a great opportunity for the top local amateur pool players to compete head to head with some of the top level touring professional players.”
Mike Capone, owner of Capone Custom Cues, will be serving as an official and referee at the event and will also be doing cue maintenance and repair for anyone in need.
For more information about the tournament, please contact Danny Green via email at dgreen6707@yahoo.com , log onto www.everything-about-pool.com, or phone at 202-422-3217.

Tony Crosby came from a second-round defeat to battle through and win the finals of the KF Cues Open 9-Ball Tour the weekend of October 25-26. In the concurrent amateur event, Jose Ybarra captured the first-place prize. The $600-added amateur event drew 32 entrants, while the $1,000-added open event got 24. Both events were held at Stroker’s Billiards in Palm Harbor, FL.
As Crosby was battling back from the one-loss side, room owner Jose Del Rio joined WPBA pro Tracie Hines, Johnny “The Rocket” Demet, and Mark Wathen among the winners’ side final four. Hines defeated Del Rio 9-7 as Demet bested Wathen in a hill-hill battle. Demet sent Hines to the semifinals against Crosby with a 9-6 win to gain the hot seat.
On the one-loss side, it was Crosby and Tony Ruberto waiting for DelRio and Wathen. Crosby had gone through Julio Aquino and Jason Richko to take on Del Rio. Ruberto bested Ted Lepak and Brett Hawes for the right to meet Wathen. Crosby battled Del Rio to double-hill before advancing to the quarterfinals against Ruberto, who’d defeated Wathen 9-4. Crosby then bested Ruberto 9-2 for the right to face off against Hines in the semifinals and defeated her 9-2 to reach Demet.
Crosby capitalized on his own momentum and jumped out to an early and ultimately insurmountable 8-2 lead over Demet. He broke and ran a few racks in the process and allowed Demet only one more rack before cruising into the winning slot 9-3.

Al Mason strung together a series of three 9-6 wins to capture first place in the $1,000-added Fast Eddie’s Olhausen 9-Ball Tour stop October 25. Hosted by Fast Eddie’s Billiards in Odessa, TX, the event drew 32 entrants.
Among the winners’ side final four, Mason began his run to the finals with a 9-6 victory over Sean Black, as Steve Davenport was defeating Champ Massengil 9-5. In the hot seat match that followed, Mason tallied his second 9-6 win, sending Davenport to the semifinals.
It was Gary Derrick and Ramone Rodriguez who, having defeated Denny Snead and Johnny Thornton, respectively, were waiting on the one-loss side for Black and Massengil. Massengil dropped Rodriguez into a tie for fifth place with a 7-5 victory, while Black battled to hill-hill before sending Derrick to join him. Black defeated Massengil 7-5 in the subsequent quarterfinals before falling to Davenport 7-4 in the semifinals.
Davenport turned back for a second chance at Mason in the finals. A second set in a true double-elimination finals was avoided when Mason duplicated his 9-6 hot seat win in the first set and took home top honors.
